PET SHIMMERS EDGELORD

Bristol 7-piece Pet Shimmers follow up last month's 'Sonder' with B-side 'Edge Lord', out on 7-inch via Bob Nastanovich (Pavement)'s Brokers Tip label. Beginning with swooning strings, piano and gentle acoustic guitars before bursting into soaring indie pop, the track has a sense of fullness, a multitude of different layers and textures from guitars and synths that combine to create a dense thicket of sound, all without crowding the song. Singer Oliver Wilde explains the meaning behind the song's lyrics “Edgelord is a love letter to the golden ratio of the deep online forums where freedom plays out like a Wild West movie. I wrote it after watching a BBC documentary about Pepe the frog and the misdirected violence of online freedom. It’s about the cowboys and cowgirls who flood the depths of the Internet with love, and hate. It’s a reflection or rather a recontextualisation for the best, and worst elements of the human condition x x” -Toby Evans-Jesra
